The City of Cape Town today said it will continue to enforce stricter laws to curb alcohol in the province.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said through the launch of the Integrated Provincial Violence Prevention Policy Framework it will try to reduce the availability and harmful use of alcohol.

Smith said based on the statistics that they see in the hospitals and also the forensic pathologists’ services show a very large amount of injuries, motor vehicle accidents are all result of violent obligation or violent conflict it has an alcohol as an underlining factor.

Meanwhile the City of Cape Town is also trying to provide children alternative forms of recreation that did not involve alcohol, hence the introduction of a cinema in Zolani Centre in Nyanga.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said they have already started to show the cinema productions that allow young people on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to go to free cinema that is offered at one of the local Community Centre.
