The Democratic Alliance said Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Tina Joemat-Pettersson’s refusal to release World Health Organisation for Animal Health reports places at risk the jobs of thousands of farmworkers across South Africa.

The report contains reasons for the ban on South African meat exports to the European Union.

DA MP of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Annette Steyn said the DA is concerned about the Minister’s refusal to release the information.

Steyn added that what the Minister does not know is that the growth rate of animal in SA is R 65 billion per anum and it has a direct massive impact on 8.5 million people in the country and that are depending directly on that income.
