The Eastern Cape Department of Health says the report which was released last week by the Eastern Cape Crisis Action Coalition on the state of the provincial health system is distorted.

Crisis Action Coalition, released a 17-page report by the health sector NGO's, Section 27 and Treatment Action Campaign, detailing serious challenges in the Eastern Cape Health sector.

Departmental Spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said they alleged that our clinics are not functional and we dispute that.  In fact we’ve got prove to show that currently since May we’ve been busy working in various clinics.

Kupelo said a total of 220 clinics are being renovated in the Transkei, we have a hospital worth R1 billion that is being rebuilt, six hospitals that we are building as well.

“We need not to personalise these issues but we need to approach the challenges facing the Eastern Cape based on the realities on the ground” added Kupelo.
