The complaints are similar to the
sanitation issues raised by the Social Justice Coalition and prove that the
City is infringing upon the rights to dignity of our homeless people.
The Human Rights Commission has reported
the City of Cape Town to the Public
Protector following complaints of complete lack of service delivery at the
Bonnytoun informal settlement in Wynberg.
HRC’s Colin Arendse said there’s been an
instance where the toilets are not clean up to five months, there are broken
pipes that leak, there is water every time.
“Clearly this city has failed homeless
people and that become the matter of a concern. The Public Protector needs to
step in to ensure constitutional rights of these vulnerable members of our
society are protected,” Arendse added.
