The Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle said the proposed lowering of blood alcohol level is not the answer to addressing the carnage on the roads.

Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters has proposed that the blood alcohol limit for drivers be lowered to 0.02g. MEC Carlisle said harsh convictions must be the focus.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said the current limit in the country is the same as most other countries that have established safe driving regimes.

Dube added that there is no prove that if the limit would change then it would result in decrease of deaths on the roads.
