The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union said it appreciates the efforts made by the SAPS to fight crime especially that there has been a decrease in some serious crimes.

Popcru Spokesperson Theto Mahlakoana said the increase in the murder rate is a great concern to them as there is absolutely nothing more significant than human life.

“We should be ensuring that lives are protected. We do appeal with SAPS to ensure that more efforts are put into that to ensure that category of crime goes down instead of increasing,” Mahlakoana added

She further added that they are also concerned of cause by the sexual offence crimes that were reported although there has been a 0.4% decrease.

“We feel that it is not significant we need to see a much large number of a decrease because we believe there’s been an outcry in the public for us to all to be aware of sexual offences, rape crime,” Mahlakoana said
