Currently across the country there is a shortage of oral polio vaccine, measles vaccine and hepatitis B-vaccine both in the public and private sector.
Western Cape MEC of Health Theuns Botha
said recent media reports that alluded to neglect on the part of the provincial
government on stock management is mischievous and is targeted to taint the good
management reputation of the department.
Ministerial Spokesperson Helene Rossouw
said the reason for the current shortage is that the immunisations failed the
South African quality assurance tests.
Rossouw added that the replacement stock
will be delivered this week.
Parents are being encouraged to keep in
contact with local healthcare facilities to ensure that their children are
vaccinated.
