A fire in Philippi leaves 60 people homeless

City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management has confirmed that 60 people have been left homeless. 

This is after a fire broke out at Brown’s Farm Informal Settlement in Philippi today. 

It is still not known what caused the fire but police are investigating. 

Disaster Risk Management Spokesperson Wilfred Solomons Johannes said about 20 homes were destroyed and no injuries were reported.

“The City of Cape’s Disaster Team is assisting the affected people with food and blankets” Solomons Johannes added.
