The Department of Education in the Western Cape said a Grade 9 pupil was stabbed at Athlone High School on Tuesday.

It is believed that the stabbing came about during an argument between the learner and the two other people.

Departmental Spokesperson Millicent Merton said according to our information two perpetrators jumped over the fence at the back of the school during second break yesterday, and one of them stabbed the learner who has been identified as Conway Wilson.

“He was rushed to hospital immediately and is reportedly in a stable condition, Merton added.

A social worker and a psychologist are at the school to provide trauma counselling to learners and staff.
