The Democratic Alliance today said its concern over the justice system in the country has been proven by damning allegations against Vusi Pikoli.

There are claims that Pikoli was influenced by higher powers regarding dropping several charges against President Jacob Zuma, when Pikoli was still the Head of the National Prosecuting Authority.

The DA has called for Pikoli to disclose the names of those who tried to influence him.

DA Deputy MP of Justice and Constitutional Development Debbie Schafer said it is a criminal offence in terms of section 41(1) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act to "improperly interfere with, hinder or obstruct the prosecuting authority or any member thereof in the exercise, carrying out or performance of its, his or her powers, duties and functions".

Schafer added that the DA will now consult with their attorneys regarding this latest evidence in support of the claims that the decision to drop charges against President Zuma was irrational and politically motivated.
