Correctional Services Minister Sibusiso Ndebele on Tuesday opened the Brandvlei Correctional Centre in the Western Cape.

Minister Ndebele said the Brandvlei Correctional Centre marks another landmark accomplishment in providing correctional facilities which make provision for rehabilitation, adequate security as well as conditions consistent with human dignity.

Ministerial Spokesperson Logan Maistry said this is a new generation correctional centre that focuses on rehabilitation and create an appropriate balance between security and rehabilitation.

“the centre will go a long towards ensuring that we really focus on the department of the correctional services prior to the mandate of ensuring that inmates are properly rehabilitated so that once they leave our facilities they are equip to appropriate skills and appropriate education qualifications and do not re-offend,” Maistry added.
