The Western Cape government has proposed for the Western Cape College of Nursing to merge with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

This proposal has not been received well with staff of the college saying they might lose their jobs if this merger goes ahead.

Provincial Secretary for the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa Bogani Lose said the trade unions are currently in talks with provincial government regarding the matter.

Lose said workers are completed opposed to this transfer and they do not understand why it is necessary.  At the national level government is talking about reopening of nursing colleges.

“Our view is that instead of transferring the WC College of Nursing to CPUT it should be strengthened so that it produces more nurses” Lose added.
