A fire in Philippi leaves 380 people homeless

A fire which occurred late last night in Philippi destroyed about 100 shacks.

Fire and Rescue Services Spokesperson Theo Layne said 380 people were left homeless due to the fire and no injuries were reported.

Layne said the fire was extinguish in the early hours of this morning and at this stage the cause of the fire is unknown. 

Over the past weekend 200 people were left homeless and four people died in Masiphumelele Informal Settlement. 

The City of Cape Town has urged residents to be aware of fire risks as an increase of fires starts to rise during this time.
