A Pretoria student aged 20-years-old was on Wednesday arrested after it emerged she lied to the police about being raped and kidnapped.

Police Spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said it has been established that she was never kidnapped but left the Hatfield Square with friends to Sandton where she was allegedly separated from the group for a period of time.

Dlamini said we found that her statement was in conflict with the statements taken from all the other witnesses, so she has been charged with defeating the ends of justice.  She is expected to appear in court in January 2014.

“We just want to warn the public that making a false statement under oath to the police is a punishable offence” Dlamini added.
