Fifteen people injured in an accident in Durban

ER24 paramedics and other emergency services this morning responded to a motor vehicle collision on the N2 North near Natal Portland Cement.

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said on arrival, they found that a motor vehicle had slammed into the rear of a taxi leaving a taxi passenger and the driver of the motor vehicle trapped and 13 other passengers with various injuries.

Vermaak said ER24 Durban and Highway paramedics worked together with Durban Metro Fire Department and Rescue Care EMS to treat all of the patients. The most severely injured patient was extricated using jaws-of-life. It took rescuers over an hour to free the trapped patients.

He added that a total of fifteen patients were treated on scene and transported to various hospitals in Durban for further care.

Exact details to the cause of the accident are not yet known at this stage and the police are investigating.
