The Western Cape MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning Anton Bredell said about R426 million has been allocated to the province for disaster rehabilitation and recovery.

In November parts of the province was hard hit by severe storms causing damage to infrastructure, agricultural land and water pipelines.

Ministerial Spokesperson Peter Pullen said they are happy that the disaster management is now ready to do great work over the summer/fire season.

Pullen said due to new equipment and aircraft it has allowed the response time to fires to be much quicker.
