The Western Cape Department of Health said it is geared up for the festive season.

During 2012-2013 the more than 600 health centres in the province attended to 14.8 million patients.  The department has stated that its goal is to ensure that services will continue without interruption during the festive season.

Provincial MEC of Health Thenus Botha said the emergency staff and equipment are one of the best in the world and are prepared for this holiday season.

Provincial Cape Winelands District Spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto said it is important to remember that there are more accidents during the holidays and staff at clinics and community health centres are capable and trained to deal with any situation.

Otto added that people need to be more vigilant on the roads and obey all the road rules.
