ACDP applauds Minister Motsoaledi on firm stand taken on patent laws

The African Christian Democratic Party has applauded Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi for ensuring access to more affordable medicines.
Dudley added that
government is expected to bring national law in line with international norms,
so they can take action when inflated prices put crucial medicines out of
reach.

It has been reported that pharmaceutical
companies are exploiting and depriving people in the country of medication they
need through the proposed patent laws.
ACDP MP Cheryllyn Dudley said we do
understand that profit margins will always be a priority for companies and
pharmaceutical companies are no exception, it is not and cannot be government’s
priority. Responsible government must
prioritise the needs of people living in South Africa and act in their
best interests.
