DA calls for Minister Mthethwa to resign

Lusanda Bill
22 January 2014

The Democratic Alliance said several times Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa has dodged the bullet including not being held accountable for high profile cases including the Marikana Massacre and the death of Andries Tatane.

DA MP of Police Dianne Kohler Barnard said it is even more concerning that Minister Mthethwa has no clear plan on how to tackle the issue of police brutality.

Barnard said it is Nathi Mthethwa in his capacity as the political head of the Department of Police, and not provincial and local office bearers who should ultimately be held accountable for the conduct of SAPS officers.

“The time for Nathi Mthethwa to go is long overdue.  Indeed he should do the honourable thing and resign” Barnard added.
