The Democratic Alliance in the Free State said 30 percent of schools in the province do not have all the textbooks they need.

The DA randomly selected 20 schools to visit and six out of those schools did not have the necessary teaching materials needed.

The Department of Basic Education in the Free State said that almost 100 percent of schools had received their textbooks for the year.

DA Free State Leader Patricia Kopane said the missing textboooks at the schools cover important subjects such as Maths, Life Science and Business Studies.  And this is happening at different schools and grades.

“As the Democratic Alliance I will be writing to the Minister Angie Motshekga and MEC Makgoe about the findings of our oversight visits, because we know exactly where the schools are and what they need” Kopane added.
