FAWU: Calling a worker a baboon is unacceptable

Food and Allied Workers Union said workers belonging to them and SACCAWU have been protesting at Dairybelle plant near Somerset East since last week in protest against a worker being called a baboon.

It is alleged that these comments were made by a senior manager at the Cookhouse plant.

Fawu Spokesperson Dominique Swartz said calling a person a baboon is offensive.  What is more worrying is that the company in question Dairybelle refuses to investigate the remarks that were made in front of other workers.

Swartz added that Fawu supports its members in the struggle for justice and a non-racial working environment.  At this stage we will do all that we can to address the issues of nepotism and union bashing currently being experienced at Dairybelle in Somerset East.
