Hawks arrest six men for unwrought gold in Vereeniging

Six men were on Thursday arrested by the Hawks after they were caught in busy processing gold bearing material. 

The men aged between 20 and 62-years-old were found with gold worth about R50 000, a bottle of mercury, gas bottles and R40 000 cash and were arrested in Vereeniging. 

Captain Paul Ramaloko said the men are believed to be part of a bigger syndicate dealing in gold.  This gold is believed to have been stolen Blyvooruitzicht.

Ramaloko added that they are hopeful that this breakthrough will lead to more arrests. 

The six suspects are appearing in the Vereeniging Magistrate Court today on charges of illegal possession of gold bearing material.
