Sonke Gender Justice has called on Government to follow through with its obligations to prevent Gender Based Violence.

This follows the rape and setting alight of a 9-year-old girl in Delft this past weekend.

Statistics show that every 30 seconds a child is raped and some estimates that nearly 1.5million rapes occur in the country annually.

Sonke Gender Justice Spokesperson Patrick Godana said it undermines the efforts that that the organisation has been campaigning for, for the past year.

Godana further called on government to ensure that perpetrators get the right full punishment that would deter other would be criminals not to commit crime.
