The Western Cape
Traffic Authorities held several roadblocks across the province last night.
These roadblocks
are held as part of trying to reduce drunken driving and road carnage on the
roads.
Western Cape
Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said they arrested several drivers for various
crimes.
Africa said four drunken drivers were arrested and the highest recording
recorded was 0.92 mg and they also arrested one person for being in false
documentation and another person reckless driving.
Meanwhile Kenny
Africa said in these roadblocks there are prosecutors that can prosecute cases
on the spot.
Africa said this has helped to prosecute drivers on the spot and reduce the
backlog of cases. Africa also said they fined some of the drivers.
Africa said
the amount of fines issued was R116 00,000 and the tested the speed of 148
vehicle and 33 drivers were prosecuted for exceeding the speed limit and there
were no fatalities reported this weekend.
