Five drivers arrested for drunk driving during WC roadblocks

The Western Cape traffic officials held 12 roadblocks across the province and national main routes, over the weekend. Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said they stopped 1 772 vehicles in these roadblocks.

“We have arrested 5 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol at roadblocks across the province. 553  drivers were tested for the use of alcohol at 12 roadblocks,” Africa added.

He also said The highest reading was recorded in Swellendam area on the N2 with 1.5 mg /1000ml.

“We also tested a speed of 4 022 motor vehicles which we prosecuted over 269 drivers for exceeding the speed limit,” said Africa.

There was one fatality reported on the N7 between Glen William and Klaabar whereby a truck driver lost control resulting to a woman losing her life, and a passenger in the vehicle.
