The National Sea Rescue Institute responded to Bakoven to offshore where 5 people including children were in difficulty.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said when they arrived on scene they found 2 adults males, an adult female, 2 female children clinging onto a capsized canoe and being swept out to sea.

“It appears that all 5 people had been out on an afternoon paddle, an adult male, an adult female and their daughter, on a canoe, and an adult male and a female child on a Stand-Up Paddle Board, when the canoe capsized in an increasing gusting off-shore wind that came up quite suddenly and increased to a gusting 25 knots.” Lambinon added.

He concluded by saying that they were all rescued onto the Bakoven Sea Rescue craft and taken to a shore and treated for hypothermia and exhaustion but they required no further medical assistance.
