Roads deaths in the Western Cape on the decrease

The Western Cape Government on Tuesday said several of its interventions concerning road safety have continued to yield results.

Since 2009 the provincial death rate on the roads has decrease by 30%. During December 2013 and January 2014, 221 people tragically lost their lives during this period in the province.

Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said this decrease is because of the 24 hour traffic services that we have in the province.

Dube said year-on-year, we continue to see the deaths on the Province’s roads decrease and are confident that through our continued efforts, this trend will no doubt continue with less and less lives being lost so senselessly on the roads.

“While the numbers are still high, especially pedestrian deaths, the trend is downward and moving in the right direction” Dube added.
