Western Cape MEC of Health Theuns Botha
said there are still enormous challenges facing health facilities across the
province.
MEC Botha said not only are long waiting
times at facilities a daily reality but waiting lists for emergency as well as
elective surgical procedures continue to be at unacceptable levels.
Ministerial Spokesperson Helene Rossouw
said in the past four years, groundbreaking initiatives have been introduced to
reduce waiting times in facilities, but the results are not visible because
patients keep on increasing.
Rossouw said the more we improve our
services the more people we attract. MEC
Botha also said there is a consistent demand at emergency centres and he is
going to approach national treasury on coming up with a new formula for the
distribution of funding to provinces.
