Western Cape Traffic Officials out in full force

Western Cape Traffic Officials held 24 roadblocks across the province over the weekend.

About 2 529 vehicles were stopped on these roadblocks and 874 drivers were tested for alcohol.

Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said the highest reading was recorded in Knysna and one person was arrested for overloading his vehicle.

Africa said two men were arrested in Delft for possession of dagga and tick and another four drivers were arrested for the possession of dagga in Vredendal.

Meanwhile several drivers were prosecuted and arrested for various crimes.

Africa said they fined a lot of drivers that do not adhere to the rules of the road.

He also said these roadblocks are with the aim to reduce road fatalities and drunk driving.

Africa said the total amount of fines issued is R 1 45 900-00 and there were six fatalities report in the province.
