A 44-year-old man
was arrested and charged for being in possession of dangerous weapons during a
strike by members of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction
Union.
The man was found
in possession of a knife and knoberrie.
This follows the
coming into effect of the Dangerous Weapons Act this year and was signed into
law by President Jacob Zuma last year.
Police
Spokesperson Thulane Ngubane said this arrest shows that the law is in place
and is indeed working. Now it sends a
very strong message to anyone who could have thought that they could undermine
this law.
“We are here as
the police to make sure that the laws of the land are enforced and we will
continue to do that until people obey the law” Ngubane added.
