A 19-year-old man was this week found guilty of murder after he raped and murder a 16-year-old in Msinga in June last year.

The man was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Greytown Regional Court and the sentence has been welcomed by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.

He said that this sentence sends a strong message that police are taking a strong stance on crime.

Captain Thulani Zwane said it is alleged that the woman of 16 years-old victim went to her boyfriend’s place where she met the boyfriend best friend.

"The friend took her away where she was allegedly raped by the same man, later the woman opened a case at Msinga police station, through investigation this man was arrested and charged for rape. Zwane added.
