Cable theft a concern for the City of Cape Town

The City of Cape Town says the Metal Theft Unit has made more than 50 arrests in connection with cable theft in the past 12 months.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said cable theft is serious because it cuts residents from essential services.

In the latest incident three men were arrested on Sunday for cable theft in Belhar.  Unfortunately every metal that has been dug out of the street is a household or a factory or a hospital that has been cut off from electricity.

Smith said metal thieves are enemies of all of the people of our city and that is why we are happy that the public keeps on giving us information because it is very important.
