Cosatu concerned about the state of Eskom

Lusanda Bill
14 March 2014

The Congress of South African Trade Union said problems Eskom is experiencing including load-shedding has become a serious national embarrassment and could have a major impact of economic growth and job creation.

Cosatu Spokesperson Patrick Craven said we need to make sure first of all in the short term that the generating capacity which is now being constructed comes online as quickly as possible.

Craven said in the long term we have a complete review of our future plans for energy generations which cannot relay on coal power stations.

“We need to remember that coal is a non-renewable source and will eventually run out as well as it is very bad for the environment.  We need to look at other sources of energy generation looking into the future” Craven added.
