Cosatu: Mineworkers calling for the strike to come to an end

Lusanda Bill
12 March 2014

The Congress of South African Trade Union in the North West says workers in the platinum sector are calling on the union to intervene in the prolonged strike.

Cosatu Provincial Secretary Solly Phetoe said action taken by Impala management of putting all workers on special leave without payment is putting workers under economic challenges which they are facing today.

Phetoe said we are not saying workers should abandon the strike but we think it is about time that both the trade union and employers should negotiating in good faith and remember that they are people that they are representing on the ground.

“If strikes prolong for longer than three weeks than workers become divided.  As Cosatu we are going to try and talk to some of the management people and see if we cannot help with the discussion process” Phetoe added.
