Five men were seriously injured when a light motor vehicle collided with a truck on the R33 in New Hanover, KwaZulu-Natal this morning.

ER24 Spokesperson Luyanda Majija said when paramedics arrived on scene they found the vehicle stuck beneath the truck with one of the men trapped in the vehicle. His fellow occupants were lying on the road.

Majija said paramedics requested the assistance of a crane from a nearby farmer to lift the truck off the vehicle. When fire department personnel arrived on scene they removed the man from the wreck using jaws-of-life equipment.

She added that treatment of the patients ensued immediately after which they were transported to
Northdale Hospital
for further medical care.

The exact cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
