The George Integrated Public Transport Network was launched by the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works on Tuesday.

MEC Robin Carlisle said there has been a massive R40 million investment on upgrades and infrastructure for the network across George.

The department has also managed to secure over R200 million from the National Department of Transport funding over the next three years to ensure that the Go George continues to serve the people of the area.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said this kind of system is South Africa’s very first non-metro integrated public transport system.

Dube said Go George will include over 25 routes across George, 5.8 million km per year travelled which equates to 9 million passenger trips annually, its scheduled 18 hours a day, seven days a week and it will have subsidised fares with an integrated fare management system.
