Minister of Science and Technology Derek Hanekom has welcomed the contribution of R1.7 billion made by
Hanekom said the
contribution is important because it provides for the implementation of Phase
one of the SKA to begin.
Departmental
Spokesperson Tommy Makhode said this donation demonstrates a commitment by
countries and hopefully more countries will come on-board.
"Already South
African has contributed close to R4 million with regards to the construction of
the SKA. The project is a global
scientific enterprise to build one of the largest scientific instruments ever
envisaged” Makhode added.
