70 people left homeless in a spate of fires in the Cape Peninsula

Over this weekend over 70 people were left homeless in a spate of fires in
the Cape Peninsula. The fires occurred in Langa,khayelitsha, Strand and
Milterton. In the seperate fires 23 shacks were destroyed.
Disaster Risk management Spokesperson Wilfred Solomons Johannes said three
subsequent fires in Langa, Milterton and Khayelitsha resulted in 59 other
people displaced.
Johannes said one of the significant fires was the one in Langa where 18
shacks caught alight and the fire rapidly spread to the adjacent properties as
a result P4 houses of families burnt down in that incident.
Disaster management teams have been deployed throughout the weekend to
render assistance to the families that were affected as a result of these
fires, Wilfred Solomon Johannes added.
