A 14-week-old baby died this morning and her mother is in a critical condition after they were hit by a vehicle in KwaZulu Natal.

When paramedics arrived on the scene they found the baby and her mother in serious condition lying on the road.

ER24 Spokesperson Luyanda Majija said the 14-week-old girl, who had lost her pulse, was quickly transported to the nearest clinic and resuscitated for over an hour before her pulse was restored.

“While she was being transported to Albert Luthuli Provincial Hospital for urgent medical care, her pulse dropped to which advanced life interventions ensued. Unfortunately these interventions proved unfruitful as her body failed to revive. The baby was declared dead at the hospital.” Majija added.

She said the infant’s mother is being treated for her back and neck injuries at RK Khan Hospital.
