One man was killed and three others were left critically injured in an
accident o the R511 in Lonehill on Sunday. It is believed that a vehicle was
speeding on the construction road when it drove into a ditch. This resulted in
the vehicle becoming airborne and colliding with a concrete barrier.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring
said ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find a mangled vehicle on a
construction road, one of the occupants sustained serious head injuries and was
declared dead on the scene. Another man sustained critical injuries including
lacerations both to his head and chest. The two remaining suffered only minor
injuries.
Meiring added that ER24 paramedics jumped into action treating the critical
patients. Jaws of life equipment had to be used to free some of the occupants
before further treatment could continue.
“Once freed paramedics placed the critical man on the spine board before he
was transported to a hospital in Johannesburg for urgent treatment. The
remainder of the patients were treated
and transported by various other services to hospital” Russell Meiring added.
