The Mankweng police on Thursday arrested three men shortly after they allegedly hijacked a truck full of cigarettes at gun point at Ga-Kgole Section of Ga-Mamabolo.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said police were responding to a complaint when they spotted a quantum which matched the description of the getaway vehicle parked at a yard along the R71 road at Viking Village.

Mulaudzi said the police entered the yard and found R105 000 worth of cigarettes in the possession of four suspects and the trio were arrested on the spot. The fourth suspect is still on the run and the police are hot on his heels.

He further said the arrested suspects, aged between 33 and 40 years old, will appear before the Mankweng Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing charges of hijacking, armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
