The Congress of South African Trade in the Western Cape said outgoing MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle has been aware for some time with issues fuelling the conflict in the taxi industry in Cape Town.

This as the taxi violence in Steenberg, Muizenberg and Vrygrond has left nine people dead.

Cosatu Spokesperson Tony Ehrenreich said they support the call for an immediate commission of inquiry to be established in this case.

Cosatu is very concerned about the conflict in the taxi industry and continued killings. This is another sign of the inept management that Carlisle and the DA has brought to the taxi industry.

We want an urgent investigation and steps taken to bring the blood shedding that have taken place in the last few weeks.Ehrenreich added.
