The Democratic Alliance has called on Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to investigate alleged abuse of power by President Jacob Zuma’s nephew Khulubuse Zuma.

DA Chairperson of Federal Executive James Selfe said recent allegations suggest that in 2009 President Zuma negotiated on behalf of his nephew to secure a stake in oilfields worth R100 billion in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This was in exchange for South Africa’s security assistance and expertise in the field of hydroelectric power.

Selfe said if this was correct it would constitute an abuse of his position as president.

“We regard the matter in a very serious light and I hope the public protector is going to get to the bottom of this Selfe added.
