Three people who escaped prison last week in Vryheid were re-arrested over the weekend.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the suspects were facing charges including seven counts of robbery, two counts of murder, five counts of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and stock theft.

Zwane said it is alleged that the three accused were going to be loaded in a truck going to court when they escaped from the prison in Vryheid.

“They were arrested for a number of cases such as house robbery, attempted murder as well as robbery,” Zwane added.
