The Democratic
Alliance has welcomed the ruling by National Council of Provinces Chairperson,
Thandi Modise, on a comment made by Minister of Human Settlements, Lindiwe
Sisulu, in Parliament on Thursday.
Minister Sisulu
referred to DA Parliamentary Leader Mmusi Maimane as a hired native. Modise
ruled that the comment made was unparliamentary.
It is widely felt
that Parliament sets the tone for the discourse in South Africa , and an example of
how South Africans interact with one another.
Hence, Maimane
reiterates, “the DA welcomes the ruling by Thandi Modise because it’s unhealthy
for a society like South Africa to resort to
racial language to make political points.”
Owing to the racial
sensitivities inherent to our politics as a country, DA Parliamentary Leader
Mmusi Maimane, deemed the comment made a mockery of South Africa ’s divided
history.
