DA’s retort to Sisulu’s unparliamentary comment

The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the ruling by National Council of Provinces Chairperson, Thandi Modise, on a comment made by Minister of Human Settlements, Lindiwe Sisulu, in Parliament on Thursday.

Minister Sisulu referred to DA Parliamentary Leader Mmusi Maimane as a hired native. Modise ruled that the comment made was unparliamentary.

It is widely felt that Parliament sets the tone for the discourse in South Africa, and an example of how South Africans interact with one another.

Hence, Maimane reiterates, “the DA welcomes the ruling by Thandi Modise because it’s unhealthy for a society like South Africa to resort to racial language to make political points.”

Owing to the racial sensitivities inherent to our politics as a country, DA Parliamentary Leader Mmusi Maimane, deemed the comment made a mockery of South Africa’s divided history.
