The Department of Home Affairs has encouraged parents to apply for unabridged birth certificate for their children as this is a legal requirement.
The Department said the unabridged
certificate is more secure and reliable with added information as it contains
particulars of both parents, where possible.
Departmental Spokesperson Mkuseli Apleni
said this will support the drive to secure the National Population Register so
that people in the country are safe.
Apleni said as of 1st October 2014 when parents are
travelling with children such parents must produce an unabridged birth
certificate of the child even if the children will not be travelling overseas.
