MEC Donald Grant concerned about taxi violence in Cape Town

Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant said they are very concerned about the continued prevalence of violent crime in the taxi industry. 

MEC Grant in a statement said since the deployment of the City’s Metro Police and Traffic Services in the Southern suburbs three illegal firearms have been confiscated and seven taxi drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said in the meantime they wanted to elaborate on the some of the interventions in trying to curb violence in the taxi industry.

Dube added that the Vreigrond Taxi Association has been issued with a suspension.
