The President’s Office said President Jacob Zuma is considering Independent Electoral Commission Chairperson Advocate Pansy Tlakula’s request for special leave.

Advocate Tlakula asked for leave to appeal the findings by the Electoral Court which recommended that she be removed from her post. The Court found that Tlakula had compromised the integrity and independence of the IEC.

This follows her role in the 2009 lease of the IEC's headquarters.  She said she will be appealing her expulsion in the Constitutional Court.

Acting Spokesperson for the President Ronnie Mamoepa said President Jacob Zuma has received a request for special leave from advocate Pansy Tlakula the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission.

“The President is considering the request and the outcome thereof will be re-laid on due course to advocate Pansy Tlakula Mamoepa added.
