Eight people have been presumed dead and several injured after a building collapsed in Alberton, Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics are still on the scene trying to free the bodies of seven construction workers who are believed to still be trapped under the rubble.

ER24 Spokesperson Luyanda Majija said since the collapse occurred this morning, six patients and one dead body have been freed.

Two out of the 27 construction workers present at the time of the collapse have not been found yet.

The collapse occurred while the men were working on the construction of the building.

The exact cause of the collapse is unclear at this stage.
