Roadblocks in the WC results in 32 people being arrested

Western Cape Traffic Authorities over the weekend conducted 24 roadblocks where 2 716 vehicles were stopped and 1 377 drivers were tested for alcohol.

Provincial Department of Transport and Public Work’s Celeste Nell said of these drivers that were tested 27 were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The highest speed alcohol reading was recorded in Mossel Bay at 1.05mg/1000ml, which was four time the legal limit” Nell added.

Meanwhile also during the roadblocks five other arrests were made. Two motorists were arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle in Brackenfell. 

One person was arrested for having false documentation and this was in Oudtshoorn and two other people had their vehicles impounded in Somerset West.

Provincial Department of Transport and Public Work’s Celeste Nell said this past weekend twelve people were killed on our roads which included three passengers, five pedestrians, two cyclists, and two drivers.
